“We are burdened by the enormous waste of human potentials in our world today.” Prince Oduro, Founder/Executive Director, ARII
The Higher Learning Scholarship Programme provides scholarships to high school and university for students from rural and disadvantaged communities in Ghana and Africa whose parents can’t afford to pay the required tuition fees.
The HLSP was established by African Rights Initiative international in January, 2013 as to address the gap the Sponsor a Child Project could not fill.
The focus is to help needy and deserving youth with limited financial resources who display academic excellence and the desire to acquire higher learning, practical skills and knowledge to enhance self-reliance by pursuing their higher education.
The ARII HLSP is committed to increasing the opportunities for dedicated African students from poor communities and backgrounds to participate in high-quality education by reducing financial constraints through the provision of grants and scholarships.
Majority of youths come from very poor backgrounds and are unable to afford college fees and other related costs as they are above the reach of many Africans who live below the poverty line. This has significantly contributed in widening the gap between the rich and poor making genetic poverty a common occurrence in Africa
We appreciate there is a key obstacle making access to higher education more difficult for poor African youth. Higher institutions tuition fees and other related costs are far much beyond the reach of many poor Africans; the financial resources needed to support their training constitute to the most serious challenge for many African families. Indeed, many committed families lack the resources to finance their children’s college education.
We work to create a better platform for these youth so that they can be active citizens in the near future to participate fully and meaningfully in national life.
